Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland pledges to commit expertise and resources to designing the joint training programmes with Hue University

The HU delegation was led by HU President, Professor Nguyen Quang Linh, with the participation of HU senior managers: Professor Huynh Van Chuong – HU Vice President for Academic Affairs; Professor Tran Huu Tuan – Dean of School of Tourism and Hospitality – Hue University; Professor Truong Thi Hong Hai, Director of Biotechnology Institute, Hue University and Dr. Duong Van Hieu – Dean of Environment Science Department, University of Sciences, Hue University and Dr. Nguyen Van Huy, Deputy Director of International Relation Office – Hue University.

The delegation were warmly welcomed by President of DIT – Professor Brian Norton; Head of Graduate Research School, DIT – Professor Mary McNamara as well as other staff from Academic Quality Assurance Office – Ms. Nicole O’Neill, Assitant Head of School of Hospitality Management and Tourism – Dr. Ralf Burbach, Head of School of Food Science and Environmental Health – Dr. James Curtin and Mr Fintan Moran from Food Science and Environmental Health, College of Sciences and Health.

During the three days from 6 to 8 of June, 2018, HU team and DIT team entered into an intensive discussion on different aspects of designing and implementing international joint training programmes to be offered at Hue University, on different modes of international delivery, as well as on a variety of cost implications. The special focus was on how academic quality assurance processes were run at DIT, which aspects of quality assurance could be adopted into Vietnam context.

The delegation from HU were arranged to meet with key staff of the three proposed training programmes at DIT, i.e. Tourism and Hospitality Management, Food Safety Management, and Environmental Health. Visits were made possible to DIT’s partners from the industry who worked closely with DIT in developing their training programmes.

At the end of the workshop, professor Mary McNamary, leader of DIT team in VIBE project has summarized crucial agreements between DIT and HU within VIBE project, some of which included (1) continued commitment from DIT staff to provide expertise and technical support to designing and practical transfer the joint training programmes as well as staff capacity building within VIBE project, (2) finalization of mode of programme delivery and degree issuance, (3) support to send experts to attend next workshop in Hue University around October 2018.
